Insulation Upgrade – Adding 11 Inches of Blown In Fiberglass Insulation on Top of Cellulose in Lemoore, CA

Elsa contacted us during a ferocious Central Valley summer heat wave. Although her thermostat was set to 77, it was getting up to 83 degrees inside of her house, despite running her air conditioner all day. We took a look in her attic and found the culprit: low insulation. With only 3 inches of insulation protecting her home from the scorching attic heat, it was no wonder her HVAC system wasn’t able to work effectively. We determined that an insulation upgrade was the best route for Elsa.

We began by air-sealing visible leakage points with closed-cell foam to prevent air from leaking between the attic and the home’s living spaces. We then blew in premium, fiberglass insulation to a height of 14 inches, bringing the attic to the Energy Star recommendation of R38.

As a result of the insulation upgrade, Elsa and her family will enjoy a much cooler home during the summers, a warmer home during the winters, and she will cut her monthly heating and cooling costs by up to 30% for as long as she stays in that home.
