Attic Restoration – Full Insulation Removal and Replacement in 1200 Square Foot Home in Caruthers, CA

This homeowner in Caruthers, CA contacted us because his home was extremely uncomfortable during the hot summer months. He also stated that his house would get dusty constantly, which he attributed to living out in the country. However, upon inspection of his attic, we found that batting insulation had been haphazardly installed, there was debris throughout the attic, and there was evidence of rodent activity. Based on these findings, he wisely decided to have his attic completely restored.

We began the attic restoration by extracting and disposing of the old insulation. We then cleaned and sanitized the attic using Nisus DSV sanitizer. This is a concentrated disinfectant, cleaner, mildewstat, fungicide, and sanitizer that kills a broad spectrum of viruses, bacteria, and fungi. Once we had a clean area to work with, we pinpointed all areas where air leakage could occur and sealed those areas with closed-cell foam. This included all top plates, wire and plumbing penetrations, and registers. By sealing the attic, we prevented air from flowing between the attic and the home’s living spaces. Additionally, we installed barriers at any potential rodent entry points to prevent them from accessing the attic. We cleared the soffit vents to ensure improved ventilation of the attic space.

We then blew in premium, Johns Manville fiberglass insulation to a height of 14 inches. This provided the Energy Star recommended R38 level of insulation.

Not only will his home be less dusty, but it will be more comfortable and 15-20% cheaper to heat and cool his home for years to come!
