Premium, Fiberglass Insulation Blown In to R38 Level in Two-Story Home in Clovis, CA
Sylvia was a new homeowner who had recently moved in her home. She became aware of the fact that the insulation in her attic was low during a home inspection and she wanted to add more prior to her first summer in her new house. When we came out and took a look at her current level, we found that her attic only had about 5 inches of cellulose insulation present. Because cellulose insulation is made from shredded paper, it is known to settle and condense over time, leading to less heat flow protection. She wanted to add another 9 inches of fiberglass insulation, which won’t settle and lose its R-value as the years pass.
We began by air-sealing any visible leakage points that were accessible above the old insulation. Then, we were able to quickly blow in the additional insulation to bring the attic up to the R38 level that is recommended for our climate here in the Central Valley. This additional R-value will help to prevent the flow of heat between the attic and the home’s living spaces.
As a result, Sylvia’s home will be cooler during hot months, warmer in the cold months, and she can look forward to lower heating and cooling costs by up to 30%. The cost of owning her home is now significantly less and she can enjoy this for as long as she lives there!
