R38 Insulation Upgrade Using Blown In Fiberglass Insulation in 1950 Sq. Ft. Home in Clovis, CA

Lauren contacted us because her home constantly felt hot and stuffy, despite the fact that her cooling costs were skyrocketing. She felt that her air conditioner was running constantly, yet her home never really felt cool. When we inspected her attic, we found that she only had minimal batting insulation present. Batts are inefficient to insulate an attic because they don’t provide the Energy Star-recommended R38 level of protection, and also because air is able to easily flow between the batts. We determined that Lauren’s goals would be achieved through an insulation upgrade.

We began by air-sealing visible leakage points to help prevent air from flowing between the attic and the living spaces of the home. We then blew in fiberglass insulation to 14 inches, or R38.

As a result of our insulation upgrade, Lauren and her family will experience a much cooler, more comfortable home during summers, a warmer home during winters, and reduced heating and cooling costs by up to 30% for as long as they live in the home.
