R38 Insulation Upgrade from 3 Inches to 14 Inches Using Blown In Fiberglass Insulation in Clovis, CA

Christopher contacted us because he was frustrated that his home constantly felt hot, stuffy, and uncomfortable during the summer months. He also confirmed that his home felt cold during the winter, regardless of what his thermostat was set to. When we inspected Christopher’s attic, we discovered that there was only 3 inches of insulation present. Because of the low insulation, he was losing about 25% of his conditioned air through leakage between his attic and the living spaces of his home. We determined that an insulation upgrade was his best option to help keep his home’s temperature comfortable while also reducing his heating and cooling costs substantially.

We started the insulation upgrade by air-sealing visible leakage points. This helps prevent air from freely flowing between the attic and the living spaces of the home. We then blew in 11 inches of premium, fiberglass insulation to bring it to an R38 level. This is the Energy Star recommended level for our climate that’s needed to keep temperatures in the home comfortable.

As a result of the work we performed, Christopher and his family will enjoy reduced heating and cooling costs by up to 30% and significantly more comfortable indoor temperatures year-round for as long as they live in that home.
