Insulation Upgrade to R38 with Premium, Blown In Fiberglass Insulation to Keep Home Cool in Fresno, CA

The homeowner contacted us because his home was hot and stuffy in the summer and chilly in the winter. He was frustrated and looking for a way to help his home maintain a comfortable temperature without running his HVAC system constantly. Our home comfort pro came out and thoroughly examined his attic and found that there was only about 2-3 inches of insulation in the attic, which was nowhere near what is needed for our climate in order to help a home retain its conditioned air. We determined that we needed to upgrade the insulation to help the homeowner achieve a comfortable temperature while also reducing his reliance on his HVAC system.

We first air-sealed visible leakage points in the attic using closed-cell foam to help keep the attic air and living space air separate. Then we blew in premium, fiberglass insulation to an R38 level, which is what Energy Star recommends for our Central Valley climate.

Now, the homeowner experiences a cooler, less stuffy home during the summer. He will also enjoy a warmer home in the colder months and his HVAC costs will be lowered by up to 30% for the remainder of the time that he lives in that house.
