R38 Insulation Upgrade to 14 Inches Using Blown In Fiberglass In 1800 Sq. Ft. House in Fresno, CA

Jacob contacted us because his house felt hot and stuffy. Because of this, he would turn his thermostat down to 74 degrees in an attempt to keep his house cool during the summer, but still the temperature would climb to 80 degrees in his home. When we came and inspected his attic, we saw the root problem: there was only 6 inches of insulation present, well below the R38 (14 inches) recommended by Energy Star for our climate. We decided to upgrade his insulation to R38 in order to reduce his cooling costs and get his home feeling cool and comfortable.

We began by air-sealing visible leakage points with closed-cell foam to help mitigate the flow of air between the living spaces of the home and the attic. Next we blew in fiberglass insulation to an R38 level, or 14 inches.

Because of the insulation upgrade we performed, Jacob and his family will enjoy a cooler, more comfortable home during the summer, a warmer home during winters, and reduced heating and cooling costs by up to 30% for the life of the house.
