Attic Restoration – Insulation Replacement and Air-Sealing in 1900 Sq. Ft. Home in Fresno, CA

Bob contacted us because he was concerned about rodents in his attic and the mess they had made with his attic insulation. He was concerned about the space being contaminated but also the uncomfortable temperatures in his home. When we came out and inspected his attic, we discovered only about 6 inches of old insulation present, as well as heavy levels of rodent droppings and other debris littered throughout the attic. Bob decided he wanted a complete attic restoration to clean up and decontaminate the space and maximize the energy efficiency on his home.

We took the following steps to complete the attic restoration:

  1. vacuumed out all old insulation and removed debris
  2. cleaned and sanitized the attic using DSV sanitizer to remove odors, contaminants, and irritants
  3. air-sealed all leakage points including top plates, plumbing and wiring penetrations, recessed lights, and registers
  4. installed rodent-proof barriers to prevent rodents from re-entering the attic
  5. blew in premium fiberglass insulation to an R38 level, bringing the attic to the Energy Star-recommended R38 level

As a result of the work we did, Bob will now enjoy the following benefits for as long as he resides in the home:

  1. better indoor air quality
  2. reduced heating and cooling costs by up to 50%
  3. a warm, toasty home in winter and a cool, comfortable home in summer
  4. a higher resale value should he ever decide to sell his house
