Insulation Upgrade – Adding 10 Inches of Blown In Fiberglass Insulation in Clovis, CA
Chris contacted us because he was interested in adding more insulation in his attic. His home felt hot and stuffy, even with the AC running at full blast all day, and he believed the issue was with his attic insulation. When we came out and took a look in his attic, we found that he was correct; Chris’s attic only had about 4 inches of insulation present. His floor joists were visible through the existing insulation, which meant they were able to conduct heat from the attic into the home. We determined that an insulation upgrade was the best option to help make Chris’s home more comfortable, while also reducing his AC usage.
We began by using closed-cell foam to air-seal visible leakage points. This helps mitigate the flow of air between the attic and the home’s living spaces. We then blew in fiberglass insulation to a height of 14 inches, providing R38 resistance to heat flow — the Energy Star-recommended level.
Because of the insulation upgrade, Chris and his family will enjoy a cooler home during summers, a warmer home during winters, and reduced HVAC usage by up to 30% for as long as they live in their home.
