This homeowner reached out to us because the living room and dining room spaces of her home were very hot and uncomfortable. She also complained that those areas of the home got very dusty and were just generally unpleasant to be in. When we inspected her attic, we found that there was virtually no insulation in those areas of the attic, maybe an inch or so, with plenty of debris and evidence of rodent activity. Once we explained how this was the cause of the temperature discomfort in the areas of the home, as well as the dustiness, we decided that an attic restoration was the correct remedy for these issues.
We began by extracting and disposing of the old insulation and debris that littered the attic. We then cleaned and sanitized the attic using a concentrated disinfectant and sanitizer. We then identified all areas where air leakage could occur and sealed those areas with closed-cell foam. This included all top plates, wire and plumbing penetrations, registers, and can lights. Sealing the attic prevents air from flowing between the attic and the home’s living spaces. Additionally, we installed barriers at any potential rodent entry points to prevent them from accessing the attic. We then cleared the soffit vents to ensure improved ventilation of the attic space.
Once the attic was clean and sealed, we blew in premium, Johns Manville fiberglass insulation to a height of 14 inches. This provided the Energy Star recommended R38 level of insulation.
As a result of the work we did in the attic, this homeowner and her family noticed an immediate difference in the dustiness and air quality in their home. They will also enjoy a more comfortable home and lower heating and cooling bills for as long as they remain in that house.
Jose contacted Tyson Energy Solutions because he felt that his home was not staying warm during the winter and not staying cool during the summer. With rising energy costs, Jose was eager to address the problem. We came out and examined his attic and found that he had less than 6 inches of insulation. In some areas, there were bare spots, which led to certain areas of his home becoming hotter or colder than others. We determined that a comprehensive attic restoration was the best solution to address Jose’s concerns.
We began by removing all of the old insulation, then cleaning and sanitizing the attic with DSV sanitizer. This serves to eliminate microbes and contaminants in the attic and improves indoor air quality. We then meticulously air-sealed the attic, including the recessed lighting, wiring and plumbing penetrations, and registers. We also installed rodent-proof barriers at potential entry points in order to keep rodents and other animals from entering the space. Once the attic was sealed, we blew in premium, Johns Manville fiberglass insulation to R38 level, or 14 inches, according to Energy Star recommendations. We took care not to block any of the attic vents, in order to preserve proper ventilation.
As a result of our complete attic restoration, not only will Jose and his family experience a more comfortable and healthier home, but they will also enjoy reduced heating and cooling costs by up to 20% for as long as they live there.
Joseph contacted Tyson Energy Solutions because he was looking to reduce his heating and cooling costs. The previous homeowner had removed all of the old insulation but never replaced it, leaving the home feeling hot and stuffy during summer and frigid during winter. When we came and inspected his attic, we discovered that the attic was indeed bare. We determined that an insulation upgrade to R38 was Joseph’s best option to help reduce his bills and keep his home comfortable.
We began by air-sealing visible leakage points. We then blew in premium fiberglass insulation to an R38 level, bringing the attic to the Energy Star recommendation for our Central Valley climate.
As a result of the work we did, Joseph and his family will now enjoy reduced heating and cooling costs by up to 30% and a more comfortable temperature in their home year-round.
The homeowner called Tyson Energy Solutions seeking a resolution to his high cooling costs and a home that constantly felt hot and stuffy. He initially thought there was a problem with his air conditioner, but an HVAC technician had come out and told him his unit was fine, but that his insulation was low. When we inspected the attic, we confirmed this. The homeowner’s attic had only 7 inches of insulation, far below the 14 inches recommended for our climate. Based on these facts, we determined that an insulation upgrade was in order.
We began by air-sealing visible leakage points to prevent the flow of air between the attic and the living spaces of the home. We then blew in 7 additional inches of fiberglass insulation, bringing the attic up to the Energy Star-recommended level.
As a result of our insulation upgrade, this homeowner and his family will enjoy a cooler home during summers, a warmer home during winters, and reduced heating and cooling costs by up to 30% for the life of their home.
The customer called Tyson Energy Solutions because he was remodeling his home and knew he had old, dirty insulation in his attic. As part of a two step process, he wanted to remove the old insulation, do some remodeling and repairs in the attic, and then have us blow in our premium fiberglass insulation at a later date. He also wanted to have his ducts cleaned so that the home would be starting off with a clean slate.
We expertly removed all of the old insulation, which was dirty and was not effectively insulating the attic from the extreme heat of the Central Valley summers. We also cleaned the air ducts using RamAir Duct Cleaning System, which uses compressed air to efficiently eliminate dust, debris, and contaminants from air ducts.
The attic and ducts are undoubtedly cleaner than they were before, and we can’t wait to move to step two of the project, which is cleaning and sanitizing the attic, air sealing any leakage points, and blowing in the new insulation. Once this process is completed, the home will have healthier air, be more comfortable, and have lower energy bills for the life of the home.
