Truong contacted Tyson Energy Solutions because his living room was 15 degrees hotter than the rest of the house during the summer and 15 degrees colder in the winter. It had become so uncomfortable that he and his family could no longer spend time in that room or even watch TV because they would be sweating, despite running the air conditioner on full blast.
We came out and inspected his attic and found the root of the problem: his vaulted ceiling was not properly air-sealed or insulated, allowing air to flow between the attic and the home's living spaces. We determined that air-sealing and insulating the vaulted ceiling with spray foam was needed to help Truong achieve a cool, comfortable home that he and his family could enjoy.
We began by removing the fiberglass insulation and batting that was on top of the ceiling in the attic. We then used closed-cell foam and radiant barrier to air-seal the large holes, gaps, and cracks that were clearly visible from atop the ceiling. We applied the spray foam insulation thoroughly over the ceiling. and then re-added fiberglass insulation and batts to cover the ceiling.
As a result of the air-sealing and insulation work we performed, Truong and his family can now enjoy a cool, comfortable living room. Truong says that the living room is now the same temperature as the rest of the house, and the family can hang out and watch TV together. In the winter, this room will also be able to retain heat without running the heater constantly. Additionally, Truong's heating and cooling costs will now be reduced because the home retains the conditioned air in the living spaces. They will enjoy these benefits for as long as they reside in their house.
