Nora and Jason reached out to us because their home was uncomfortably hot. Nora also mentioned how dusty their house was, but she figured dust was just blowing into the home from outside, as they live out in the country. We inspected their attic and found that their home was low on insulation, and there were many holes, gaps, and cracks that air was able to leak through. This contributed to the home's discomfort, but also to its dustiness as the dust from the old, cellulose insulation was able to blow into the home's living spaces.
We determined that a comprehensive attic restoration would best help remedy these issues, as well as a whole house fan to aid in keeping the home cool so that they could run their air conditioner less. We began by removing the old, cellulose insulation and cleaning and sanitizing the attic. We meticulously air-sealed any air leakage points to help prevent air from traveling between the attic and the home's living spaces. We also installed rodent-proof barriers to prevent them from entering the space. We then installed the whole house fan, which sucks cooler, cleaner outdoor air throughout the home, then vents the hot attic air outside through the attic vents. Lastly, we blew in 14 inches of premium, fiberglass insulation to bring their home up to Energy Star recommended standards.
As a result of our attic restoration and whole house fan installation, Nora and Jason can now enjoy a more comfortable home, reduced heating and cooling costs year-round, and better indoor air quality for the life of their home.
