This is Izzy, one of our lead installers, removing old insulation as part of an attic restoration in Fresno, CA.
If you're asking yourself, "Why not just add more insulation on top of it instead of removing everything and then installing new insulation?" The answer is this: removing the old insulation not only gets rid of any microbes and contaminants that may exist in the old insulation, but it allows us to air seal your attic. Air sealing is the process of identifying any potential air leakage points, and sealing them using closed-cell foam. This includes plumbing and wire penetrations, recessed lightings, registers, and top plates.
Once the old insulation has been removed, we clean and sanitize the attic, air seal it, then add the new insulation -- premium fiberglass insulation manufactured by Johns Manville, one of the trusted brands we work with.
