Based on these facts, we determined that an insulation upgrade was in order.

We began by air-sealing visible leakage points to prevent the flow of air between the attic and the living spaces of the home. We then blew in 7 additional inches of fiberglass insulation, bringing the attic up to the Energy Star-recommended level.

We also installed rodent-proof barriers to prevent rodents and other pests from entering the attic again. Lastly, we blew in premium, fiberglass insulation to a depth of 14 inches, bringing the home up to recommended standards.
