The homeowner reached out to Tyson Energy Solutions because her house felt hot, stuff, and uncomfortable, despite her high cooling bills. When we inspected the homeowner's attic, we found that there was only about 5 inches of insulation, far less than the 14 inches recommended by Energy Star for our climate. We decided that an insulation upgrade was the best option to bring the homeowner's cooling costs down and make the home cooler and more comfortable.
We began by air-sealing visible leakage points using closed-cell foam. This helps to prevent air from flowing between the attic and the living spaces of the home. We then blew in premium fiberglass insulation to an R38 level, or 14 inches. This will help to keep the cool, conditioned air in the home and prevent the hot, attic air out of the home.
As a result of the insulation upgrade, this homeowner and her family will enjoy a cooler, more comfortable home during summer, a warmer home during winter, and reduced heating and cooling costs by up to 30% for as long as they live in that house.
Donna and David contacted us because their house felt incredibly hot, no matter how low they turned their thermostat. Because their air conditioner was running all day long, their cooling costs were extremely high. They needed a solution to their hot and stuffy house and high bills. When we inspected the attic, we discovered that they only had about 2-3 inches of insulation present, as well as roofing debris littered throughout the attic. We determined that an attic restoration and attic fan installation was the best choice to help them achieve their goals
We began by removing all of the old insulation and roofing debris and then cleaning and sanitizing the attic with DSV sanitizer. This helped eliminate the contaminants and irritants in the attic. We then thoroughly located all air leakage points and sealed them with closed-cell foam. This process greatly reduces the air that is able to flow between the attic and the living spaces of the home. We also installed rodent-proof barriers to prevent rodents and other pests from entering the attic space. Lastly, we blew in 14 inches of fiberglass insulation to bring the home up to Energy Star minimum standards.
We then installed the QuietCool Smart Gable Attic Fan 3.0, which draws cooler air into the attic automatically in order to further mitigate the scorching heat of the attic.
As a result of the work we did, Donna, David, and their family will enjoy a cooler, more comfortable home in the summer, a warmer home in the winter, and reduced heating and cooling costs by up to 50% for as long as they live in their home.
Scott reached out to Tyson because his house was constantly hot and stuffy during the summer and frigid during winter. He not only wanted to make his home more comfortable, but reduce his heating and cooling costs as well. When we inspected his attic, we discovered that there was only about 5 inches of insulation present, with the floor joists being visible under the old insulation. We also found evidence of rodent activity in his attic. Because of these factors, we determined that an attic restoration was his best option for achieving his goals of comfort, cleanliness, and lower bills.
We began by sucking out all of the old insulation in the attic. We then cleaned the attic using DSV sanitizer. To prevent air from flowing between the attic and the home's living spaces, we air-sealed all leakage points including top plates, registers, recessed lights, and plumbing and wiring penetrations. We also installed rodent-proof barriers to prevent rodents and other pests from re-entering. Lastly, we blew in premium, fiberglass insulation to an R38 level.
As a result of the attic restoration we performed, Scott and his family will enjoy a more temperate home, better indoor air quality, a rodent-free attic, and reduced heating and cooling costs by up to 50% for as long as they live in the home.
We did extensive work for Luann and Steve, who we met at the Fresno Home Show. They had been considering getting solar in order to reduce their energy bills until they learned about the numerous benefits of the solutions offered by Tyson. They had us come out to inspect their attic and we found that not only was their insulation low, but their attic was filled with air leakage points. This was contributing to their home being hot and stuffy in the summer and chilly during winter, which was in turn causing higher heating and cooling costs. Luann and Steve decided that they wanted their bills to be lower and also wanted their home to be healthier and more efficient, so they opted for an attic restoration, a whole house fan, and duct cleaning.
We began by sucking out all of their old, dirty insulation. As we cleared the insulation from the attic, we installed a QuietCool Trident 5.5 whole house fan. A whole house fan works by drawing cooler outdoor air throughout the house and then exhausting the hot air from the roof vents in the attic. At the same time that we were installing the fan, we cleaned and sanitized the attic. We then used closed-cell foam to seal up all of the holes, gaps, and cracks in the attic. This includes all the top plates, wiring and plumbing penetrations, registers, and recessed lights. Air-sealing helps mitigates air from transferring between the attic and the home's living spaces. We also installed rodent-proof barriers in the attic to prevent rodents or other pests from entering and contaminating the newly cleaned space. After this, we blew in 13 inches of new fiberglass insulation. This brought the attic up to the Energy Star-recommended level of R38. The final work we completed was the HVAC duct cleaning. We used compressed air to blow the dust, dirt, and contaminants out of the HVAC ducts, which helped to improve air quality in the home.
As a result of the extensive work we did in the home, Luann and Steve will enjoy numerous benefits:
- reduced heating and cooling costs by up to 50-90%
- a warm, cozy home in winter and a cool, comfortable home in summer
- healthier indoor air quality
- less dust in the home
- less reliance on their HVAC system, thereby extending its lifespan
Luann and Steve are holding off on getting solar for now as their bills are so much lower and their home more efficient.
Dan first learned about the benefits of an attic restoration when he received a mailer from Tyson Energy Solutions at his home. He was intrigued at the prospect of making his home healthier, maintaining a comfortable temperature year-round, and being able to offset the cost of the work through savings on his heating and cooling costs. He called us to inspect his attic and we found that he only had about 2 inches of old, dirty insulation present with substantial roofing debris present, which is a fire hazard. In addition, Dan's HVAC ducts were also old and broken, allowing contaminated air to leak into his home and conditioned air to leak into his attic. Once we showed him the pictures of his attic and ducts and the issues they had, Dan decided to replace all of the ducts and have us perform a full attic restoration.
We began by sucking out all of the old, dirty insulation and replacing the old ducts with new, R-6 flex ducts. Once the attic was bare, we cleaned and sanitized the space with DSV sanitizer. We then ir-sealed the floor of the attic to prevent airflow from occurring between the attic and the home. We also installed rodent-proof barriers to keep rodents and other pests out of the attic. We blew in 13 inches of premium, fiberglass insulation and then built a barrier around the attic access, in order to prevent insulation from falling into the home when the access was opened.
As a result of the comprehensive work we did, Dan will experience the following benefits:
- a cool, comfortable home, free of humidity during summers
- a warm, cozy home during winters
- reduced heating and cooling costs by up to 50%, which offsets his monthly cost of having this work done
- improved indoor air quality
- less dust in his home
- a more efficient HVAC system
- a more valuable home should he ever decide to sell it
